Polyamory, fluidity, gender as viewed in Renaissance Italy and in today’s Hungary…
The story
A bizarre love triangle, which turns sinister at Lake Iseo, Italy…
Set in a famous Hungarian spa town and in breathtaking Northern-Italian locations, like Monte Isola at Lake Iseo, the film adaptation of this provocative, contemporary story is intended at the same time to be a spectacular audiovisual recalling of 16th century Renaissance Flanders and Italy. The two time periods are seen and heard by the characters. From time to time they share scenes, stories, and musical pieces, from a five-hundred-year perspective, centred on the life of the intriguing figure, Margaret of Austria, Duchess of Parma and Piacenza.
A historian, writing her PhD on the Duchess of Parma and Piacenza in late Renaissance Italy, finds herself:
– seeing eerie parallels between her private life and her subject Margaret’s life, when meeting the noblewoman in her dreams,
– falling in love with her psychotherapist,
– stepping into a strange love triangle,
– while a rival plans a sinister turn for their holiday for three at Lake Iseo…

It is a contemporary tale with irony, drama with some thriller parts in the end. It is about a bizarr love triangle, where renaissance lifestyle and values filter in and influence the plot of the characters who find themselves in a new situation in their private life in the Hungarian countryside, which compared to Margaret’s reality of almost 500 years ago, is so much retrograde, as we see it emerging from the story.
Audiovisual project
This story is also a film project, a treatment is ready for development, based on the novel written in English and Hungarian that will be published by summer both on paperback and ebook.
It is a very visual story, a unique and interesting raw material for a film script. A Belgian and an Italian producer with a Hungarian producer are invited to develop a coproduction, as these three countries are most involved by the locations and the plot. The integration of the references of Italian renaissance, this fascinating era of the 16th century in Europe with its architecture, art and history into the contemporary story, is a great creative challenge and also a brilliant opportunity for a director.
The last part of the story, rich in thriller elements is set in amazing places like two famous sparkling wine regions in North Italy: in Franciacorta, and Oltrepó Pavese wine regions and around lake Iseo, with the biggest lake island in Europe, Monte Isola, where the thriller part ends the story. These places with the plot offer themselves for an audiovisual work.
The novel which is a story on its own, is dedicated to be developed either for a fiction film for cinema or a tv series with more episodes, as the suspense ending opens up for a sequel to follow how the bizarre love triangle and life of the characters go on later on…
